The red bridge in the winter
All Stories

In January, many students remain on campus or travel abroad for J-Term. Read below for important information regarding J-Term meal plans, course materials, and hours of operation for campus services.

J-Term meal plans

Meal plans work differently during J-Term. Please read the following information carefully.

Residential students enrolled in an on-campus course
The College covers the cost of residential meal plans for students enrolled in an on-campus J-Term course, including student teaching placements. Qualifying residential students will be assigned the Standard Meal Plan (14 swipes a week) for J-Term, regardless of their meal plan selection for the fall/spring semesters. Any unused Birdie Bucks from the fall semester will be available to use. Students will be allowed one daily Meal Exchange at Lentz Do Lunch or Red Zone.

Students going on study tours
Students enrolled in a J-Term travel tour will not have a J-Term meal plan provided for them. Students spending time on campus before or after their study tour may purchase a J-Term Booster Pack of 10 meal swipes for $79.50 if they so choose. These swipes can be used in The Caf and incorporated into their once-daily Meal Exchange. Students can purchase a J-Term Booster Pack at the register in The Caf at any time during operating hours or by contacting the Office of Student Financial Services and requesting a Booster Pack be billed to their student account (allowing students to apply financial aid). Unused Booster Pack meal swipes expire on Friday, Jan. 31.

J-Term booster pack
Available to residential students who would like more than 14 meal swipes a week or are enrolled in a study tour, a J-Term Booster Pack of 10-meal swipes can be purchased for $79.50. Unused meal swipes will expire on Friday, Jan. 31. The student’s normal meal plan selection will be reactivated for the spring semester on Saturday, Feb. 1. Any unused Birdie Bucks from J-Term will be added to their spring semester meal plan balance.

Commuter students
For commuter students who have purchased a meal block, their meal plan will continue to be available for use during J-Term. These swipes can be used in The Caf and Lentz Do Lunch. Students will be able to use a daily Meal Exchange at Red Zone and Lentz Do Lunch.

Student-athletes
Student-athletes required to be on campus during J-Term for practice or competition will receive additional information about their dining options from their respective coaches.

J-Term course materials available for purchase

All students are responsible for purchasing required textbooks and materials during J-Term, regardless if they are enrolled in the Equitable Access Program. To purchase course materials, students can visit the Slingshot portal through their OneLogin dashboard. When placing an order online, students will be prompted to choose between shipping or in-store pickup:

  • Shipping: Materials will be sent to the student’s home address.
  • Pickup: Materials will be available for pickup at the campus store

Payment options include charging to the student’s account, paying with a credit card, or paying in person at the campus store during pickup.

For questions, contact the campus store at carthage@slingshotedu.com or call 262-551-5778.
